Today, we welcome guest blogger, Madeline Cole, who just happens to be one of our faithful Aspire Prayer Warriors. Welcome Madeline as she shares her heart with you.
Do you wake up some mornings and you’re just blown away by a scripture in the Bible? I read daily devotionals and search out the featured scriptures to get a sense of context. That is sort of my routine. This morning I read about the thief on the cross in Luke 23:42-43
And he said, ‘Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.’ And he said to him, ‘Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise.'”
How awesome for him, right? But, I know some people who have used that scripture to go “YOLO” (You only live once), so they can enjoy all the pleasures this world has to offer, believing that God will just forgive it all any way. But, for the thief on the cross, that may have been his only opportunity to know Jesus.
I, as a believer, have been given multiple chances to see God’s love and mercy for me. Why does He even give us that many chances? My friend, Shannon Hoffpauir, was speaking at the ASPIRE event in Glendale, AZ. She was sharing this insight that God came up with the plan to save us from our sins, which He didn’t have to do! And then gives us multiple chances to receive His love, mercy and grace. It’s unbelievable!
How many times have I given someone else the same amount of chances He has given me? A BIG FAT ZERO! God’s mercy + grace + patience = a love I can’t even understand! God gives us these chances to believe and receive so that our lives will be about Him. It isn’t a matter of just being saved, it’s a matter of living so that others may be saved! As Shannon put it, “Is He just our Savior, or is He our KING?” The thief got a savior at the last moment, but his life has effect only now because God shared it with us in His word. Let our lives be about YOLOfor J! You Only Live Once For Jesus!
